September
Get an early start! Where do you want to be in one year from now? If college, narrow your list
of schools. Send for college applications and/or check in with your guidance counselor.
*Maintain or further develop good study habits.
*Register for the October 10th SAT by September 9th.
*Meet with your guidance counselor to update career and college plans.
*Check with Mrs. Foss for the fall schedule of visiting college representatives.
*Register for the November 7th SAT by October 1st.
*Check your list of colleges to see if they require SAT II subject tests.
*Attend the college fair on Wednesday September 30th.
*Pay attention to your grades.
October
*Think about visiting colleges, if you haven't done so already.
*Choose and ask your teachers to write a college recommendation for you and give
them at least a two week notice!
*October 10th SAT I&II testing day.
*Register for December 5th SAT by October 30th.
*Begin preparing college applications.
*Applications are due in the guidance office by December 11, 2009.
*Early decision candidates, complete application.
*Apply for ROTC scholarships.
*Apply to service academies.
*Keep your guidance counselor informed of your college plans.
*Pass your classes!
November
*Early decision/action application deadlines.
*November 7th SAT I&II testing day.
*Register for January 3rd SAT by December 15th.
*Begin submitting applications to the guidance office for processing.
*Check each college for specific dates and deadlines.
*Meet with your guidance counselor.
*Try to make the Honor Roll!
December
*Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available. It cannot be filed until after January 1st, but should be done as soon as possible after that date. It is encouraged that the FAFSA be filled out online, but students and families may call to request a paper version.
*Check both deadlines and priority dates for FAFSA for each college.
*Find out if your colleges require the financial CSS Profile(an additional form).
*PVHS Financial Aid Night (including very important information for parents and
students) Plan to attend-date and time to be announced.
*Register for January 23th SAT by December 15th.
*Submit completed application materials to the guidance office.
*Meet with your guidance counselor.
*Be aware of what classes you still need to pass to graduate.
January
*Complete and send FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1st.
*Explore scholarship opportunities...check in the guidance office for appropriate
and available scholarships.
*Do not procrastinate if you need to complete a correspondence course for graduation.
*Make sure your schedule is set for semester 2.
February
*Make sure all financial aid forms and supplementary information are sent by the deadline dates.
*Continue to work hard and pass all of your classes.
April/May
*Students are notified by colleges.
*Inform the guidance office of your decisions.
*Submit applications for local scholarships.
*Finalize agreement with college that you plan to attend.
*Sign financial aid award acceptance.
*Advanced Placement Tests offered.
*Counselors will continue to be available to discuss career options, employment, and
alternative routes to college.
*Correspondence courses must be completed by May 1st.
*Make sure your Penquis Exit Project (portfolio) is ready.
June
*Graduation!! (June 6th)
*Final Transcripts sent to colleges.
*Have a great summer!
