Code: JH
The Board of Directors
believes that daily attendance is necessary to the successful attainment of
classroom objectives. Regular school attendance is vital to the academic
achievement of the student and to the development of positive habits of
punctuality and attendance.
It shall be the policy of
M.S.A.D.#41 that regular and punctual patterns of attendance will be required
of each student enrolled in M.S.A.D. #41 Schools. Although absence from school
may be necessary under certain circumstances, every effort should be made by
students, parents, teachers, and administrators to keep absences and tardiness
at a minimum. School administration will insure that an accurate and
comprehensive system of daily attendance records is maintained for each
student.
The school principal will
establish a system for rewarding outstanding attendance yearly, and outstanding
attendance during the high school years will be recognized.
The only excused absences are
those due to illness of the pupil, death in the family, a doctor or dentist
appointment, or whenever the principal considers that exemption from attendance
is in the best interests of the pupil.
Pupils continually absent or tardy without sufficient cause may be
suspended from school by the principal. Habitual unexcused absence is
punishable by law.
Every pupil must attend school
punctually. Continued tardiness without
sufficient excuse is punishable by suspension.
Principals are authorized to
require satisfactory explanation from the parent or guardian for the absence of
a pupil for all or any part of the school day.
The explanation may be obtained in person, by telephone, or in writing.
